Hey, I’m Meghan and this is a little about me...
When I was younger I always enjoyed dancing. I first started dancing at the age of 4 and did ballet, tap and modern. The first dance I performed on stage was ballet in a Cinderella production in which I wore a tu-tu. I then joined Birchmoor Dancing School and did not continue with ballet dancing as I just wasn’t ever graceful enough, so just carried on with tap and modern ( however I always enjoyed the tap dancing the most ). I competed in dance festivals up until I was 15 where I won many medals for my various dances.
I started athletics when I was 10 in 2000. I always enjoyed running everywhere, nothing was ever as fun when it was slow. I entered a competition to get a years free membership at my local track in Tamworth, this involved doing standing long jump and triple jump, and I won . So I joined the club and was put in the beginners group with coach Andy Day. I always enjoyed to run so competed in the 75m, 150m and long jump. Times were never important in these days - I just loved to run and win.
I entered my first National Championships when I was 13 the U15 Championships in Sheffield. I made it through the heats of the events but not to the finals so at this point I decided that I didnt like to lose and wanted to start training harder. I then asked coach Trevor Marsay to help coach me and he got me involved in Combined events from which I got my first national medal when I won English Schools in Exeter in 2005. I was so happy when I won this and it meant that I got my first England vest to compete against the home countries in the Schools International Competition.
I started running the 300m hurdles quite by accident in 2006. During training one day the hurdles were all set up for my training partner and I decided that I fancied giving it a try to see how I coped. I just ran round and the time was pretty quick so I went through the rounds to get a selection for English Schools in this event even though my heart was set on triple jump. I came 2nd at English Schools that year behind Perri Shakes Drayton (she broke the national record in that race, however I didnt appreciate at the time just how fast I had ran, I was just gutted that I had been beaten!) The following year though I took the National Record from her in 41.41.
I continued with the combined events along side the 400m hurdles until I finished being a Junior athlete in 2008.
My greatest achievements so far have been my first international medal which I got in the 4x400m relay in the European Junior Championships in 2007. I was on the lead leg, followed by Hayley Jones, Joey Duck and Perri. I then followed this medal up with my own individual bronze in the World Junior Championships the following year. (there is a photo on my on the way to the start line – I think I am slightly too relaxed here smiles all round).
I went to Polesworth International Language College to study my A levels and my GCSEs. My school was always very supportive of my athletics and allowed me time off to compete and whilst in the 6th form allowed me to have 2 afternoons off a week to enable me to train. I studied Maths, Geography and PE for my A-levels. I now am at Loughborough University studying Maths and SportScience.
In March 2009 I began to be coached by Nick Dakin at Loughborough.
